Things Meditation Looks Like When You’re a Parent

I used to think meditation meant sitting quietly in a peaceful space with calm music playing.

Then I became a parent.

And worked with kids.

And experienced real life.

And I learned something important:

Meditation doesn’t always look peaceful, for me anyways.

Sometimes it looks like…

·       Taking a deep breath after you step on lego

·       Closing your eyes for three seconds in the pantry

·       Pretending you’re “checking your phone” when you’re actually regrouping

·       Sitting in the parked car a little longer than normal

·       Reheating the same cup of tea like it’s a ritual

·       Whispering “we can do this…” before answering the fifth question in a row

These moments might not show up on a meditation app – but they count.

Because meditation isn’t really about silence, because realistically that’s not accessible most days. It’s about returning to yourself.

And kids learn this from us – not when we’re perfect, but when we pause, breathe, and reset in real life moments.

So, if your version of meditation looks a little messy, a little funny, or a little improvised…

You’re doing it right!

Gentle Challenge This Week

The next time you catch yourself taking one of those “real-life meditation moments,” notice it and smile.

You just practiced awareness.

Until next time…
